CFFS Luncheon - 13 March 2019

Members of the Carolina Friends of the Foreign Service and their guests are invited to the upcoming CFFS Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13. The venue for this lunch is again The University Club located off US 15/501 BR, just north of the overpass connecting US 15/501 to I-85. As usual, we will gather for the social period at 11:30, moving to our tables at noon.
Speaker and Topic: Our speaker will be Dr. Remedios Gómez Arnau, Consul General, Consulate General of Mexico in Raleigh. The title of her presentation is: “Mexico, Your Unexpected Partner."
 Speaker’s BioDr. Remedios Gómez Arnau, a diplomat, was appointed as Consul General in Raleigh in 2016. She previously headed the Mexican Consulates General in Atlanta (2001 to 2008) and San Diego (2008 to 2016). Prior to her tenure in Atlanta, she was the Academic Secretary and Associate Researcher at the Center for Research on North America of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her research included U.S. foreign policy and the Mexico-U.S. relationship. At the Ministry of Foreign Relations, she served as consultant to the Undersecretary for North America in two presidential administrations (1992 to 1997) and also as the Director of Consular Protection Studies and Head of the Department of Political and Legal Affairs for the United States (1980 to 1987).
Dr. Gómez Arnau was Technical Secretary for Mexico on the First Binational Study of Migration commissioned by the Mexican and U.S. governments (1995 to 1997). She also participated in the Mexico - U.S. Binational Migration Group organized by the Autonomous Technical Institute of Mexico and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace that, in 2001, presented recommendations to the newly sworn-in presidents of both countries.
From 1990 to 1992, she served as an external consultant for the Executive Secretariat of the Mexican National Commission on Human Rights. Consul General Gómez Arnau has written, edited and coordinated multiple books and articles. She has a BA, MA and PhD in International Relations. 
Reservations: The cost of the luncheon is $30 which includes a green salad, entrée, tea or coffee, and a dessert of key lime pie. A cash bar will be available. The entrée choices are:
1) Pan seared chicken with pomme purée, haricot verts, and Dijon pan sauce;
2) Pan seared salmon with angel hair pasta, broccoli, and lemon caper sauce; and
3) Butternut squash with wilted local greens and tomato oculista (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free).
Please indicate your entrée choice(s) when you make your reservation.
Dues Reminder: If you haven’t done so yet, you may include your 2019 dues, still only $10 a person (life members are exempt), along with your luncheon payment.
Please make checks payable to 'Treasurer, CFFS' and mail them to Gregory Flood, 1015 Fearrington Post, Pittsboro, NC 27312.  Checks must be received no later than Friday, March 8.
