Invitation to CFFS Luncheon on January 16, 2020

To the Carolina Friends of the Foreign Service Luncheon

Members of the Carolina Friends of the Foreign Service and their guests are invited to the upcoming CFFS Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 16. The venue for this lunch is again the University Club located off US 15/501 just north of the overpass connecting US 15/501 to I-85. As usual, we will gather for the social period at 11:30, moving to our tables at noon.

Speaker Bio and Topic: Our speaker will be Renée Fink and her topic will be “Out of Hiding at Last”.

January 27, 2020 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It is timely that our speaker on January 16 is Renée Fink (née Renate Gabriele Laser), a Holocaust Survivor and a member of the Holocaust Speakers Bureau for the Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Human Rights Education of North Carolina. Renée  Fink shares her story as an only child, born two years before WWII to Jewish parents in the Netherlands. As life became more dangerous for the Jews, she was separated from her parents at age four and went to live with a Dutch Catholic family. At age 8, she and her grandmother came to the United States, but she was not able to remain with her grandmother.  She has an enlightening story relevant to the challenges we continue to face today. Ms Fink's many speaking engagements include Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and featured guest on UNCTV and WUNC Radio.Her presentation will include a film and question and answer period.

Lunch entrée choices are:
1)   Pan seared chicken with pumpkin gratin, haricot verts, and shallot pan sauce;
2)   Pan seared salmon with parsnip purée, squash and cranberry sauce; and
3)   Sweet potato curry with coconut milk, jasmine rice, spinach & toasted coconut (Vegan).

Dessert: New York Style Cheesecake with Berry Coulis

Salad with dressings preset on tables (on the side) to start

Cash bar as usual

Dues Reminder: It is now time to pay your membership dues for 2020, still only $10 a person (life members are exempt), which can be included along with your luncheon payment. Also, if you haven’t done so yet (you know who you are), please include your 2019 dues, as well.
