April Luncheon Cancelled

To the Carolina Friends of the Foreign Service

Members may be aware that the Steering Committee was working on arrangements for a Speaker Luncheon to be held on 2 April 2020. Recent developments regarding the wide-spread occurrences of the novel coronavirus have caused us to reconsider those plans.

We have discussed the various concerns about coronavirus. To name a few:

• the lack of clarity regarding the extent of the virus and availability of testing materials;
• the risk and vulnerability of bringing our group together, given the general age group of the membership; and
• the growing list of large gatherings cancelled, both here close at home and elsewhere. 

Based on these concerns and the confusion swirling around us, the Steering Committee has decided that the prudent and responsible course of action is NOT to proceed with the April event.

The Steering Committee will continue to monitor developments and a decision regarding the Spring Potluck Social event (tentatively scheduled for May 2020) will be made in due course.
