International Day of Peace

 International Day of Peace

21 September 2020

The U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) is a national, nonpartisan, independent institution that was founded by Congress in 1984 to resolve global conflicts through nonviolent means. Today, it pursues that mission in over 50 countries and at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. by linking research, policy, training, analysis and direct action to support those who are working to build a more peaceful, inclusive world. Its Public Education team engages with the American public, sharing information about the Institute and further connecting anyone interested to USIP’s resources.

You may know that September 21st is the International Day of Peace, and for the sixth year in a row, USIP has issued the Peace Day Challenge, encouraging folks to do something – big or small – to contribute to peace. It is hoped that this raises the profile of the day and affirms peace as a real alternative to the violence seen every day in the world.
